$7bn invested in Russia's fuel sector


MOSCOW - The volume of investments in Russia's fuel sector was $7.055bn in January to September 2004, the Federal State Statistics Agency reported. Direct investments amounted to $2.438bn, portfolio investments were $2bn and other investments were $4.615bn. Luxemburg invested $3.503bn in Russia's fuel sector in the reported period (49.7 percent of the total volume), the Netherlands invested $2.337bn (33.1 percent), Cyprus contributed $456m (6.5 percent), Switzerland $237m (3.4 percent) and France $200m (2.8 percent).

Investments in the domestic electrical energy sector were $53m in the first nine months of this year, including $100,000 in direct investments and about $53m in portfolio investments. Cyprus invested $29m in this sector.

The volume of investments in the chemical and petrochemical industry was $605m in January to September 2004, including $204m in direct investments. Switzerland contributed $232m in investments.
